LIVING WORD ORPHANAGE VILLAGE (LWOV)

Yambio, South Sudan

LWOV is a registered Non-Profit Organization founded on August 24, 2024 in South Sudan as an international mission of the Living Word Lutheran Church (LWLC) in Lansing, Michigan, USA.  LWLC is a member of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS) since 2009.  The predominate LWLC  membership are immigrants from Sudan and South Sudan with a deep bond and understanding of the people and their plight in South Sudan.

THE CRISIS IN SOUTH SUDAN

22 years of devasting civil war in Sudan between the North and the South left about 2 million people dead and 4 million displaced, who were forced to migrate to the neighboring countries and abroad.  That led to the Republic of South Sudan, voted overwhelmingly in an internationally supervised Referendum, for separation from Sudan, and gained it's independence on July 9, 2011.  That makes the Republic of South Sudan the world's newest nation but at the same time it has become one of the world's poorest underdeveloped countries.  Currently, South Sudan has a high percentage of illiteracy among all ages and underage pregnancy that led the whole country into the highest rate of pregnancies are among young girls.  In general, only 2 out of 10 children attend school.  The demands and needs to save children in South Sudan are overwhelming.  With that in mind and heart, LWLC was led by God's call to serve His children in South Sudan as part of Jesus' Great Commission: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 28:19)

LWOV MISSION

LWOV exists to enhance a holistic approach with orphaned children within the community that is centered on the love and knowledge of Christ Jesus. (1 John 4:7-8).  To this end, we will seek to:

    • Provide essential housing, clothing and meals.
    • Instill Christian teachings and values.
    • End illiteracy through education and training.

LWOV VISION

    • Share God's love with orphans to restore hope and a better future.  Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 19:14)
    • Rescue and care for the impoverished children and equip them to be the next generation prepared to impact the world through faith in Jesus Christ.
    • Reduce the illiteracy level in the lives of children to achieve a better and sustainable future.
    • Equip children with needed education and training that will engage them in a meaningful and better future of self-reliance and responsible Christian living.

LWOV PROJECT

The Mission Project of LWOV is to build a children's center in Yambio, Western Equatoria of South Sudan that will be a home for orphans.  It will provide comprehensive care, including housing, food, clothing and schooling.  This project has begun with brickmaking on the LWOV property.  We are relying on the Lord to provide friends to partner with us to complete the project.
